Patch Notes v1.4: Mobile Touch Overhaul, Hitbox Refinements & 60FPS V-Sync Locking

Welcome to the official developer release notes for GLITCH GRID Version 1.4. Over the past several weeks, our indie engineering team has focused on an ambitious quality-of-life and performance initiative across all twenty-five simulation modules. This update delivers universal mobile touchscreen support, deterministic 60fps v-sync locking, localized score persistence, and refined collision hitboxes.

Below is a comprehensive breakdown of the major changes deployed to production in this milestone build.

1. Universal Mobile Touch Tracking & Scroll Prevention

One of the greatest challenges of hosting canvas-based arcade games on modern mobile browsers is preventing accidental touch gesture conflicts. Swiping up to jump or dragging to steer often triggered mobile browser refresh gestures or viewport dragging.

In Version 1.4, all touch-enabled titles (including Neon Grid Runner, Quantum Aviator, and Data Packet Dash) now employ a dedicated touch event handler:

Event Interception: Touch listeners are attached with { passive: false }, allowing e.preventDefault() to cleanly suppress browser pinch-zooming and screen bounce during gameplay.

Touch-Margin Calibration: Paddle and character tracking now calculate relative coordinate deltas rather than absolute screen coordinates. This ensures players can steer characters from the bottom thumb margin without their fingers obscuring central obstacle hazards.

2. Deterministic 60 FPS V-Sync & Delta-Time Scaling

Modern display technology has diversified rapidly: standard 60Hz displays, 90Hz Android displays, 120Hz Apple ProMotion iPads, and 144Hz+ PC gaming monitors. Under older naive animation loops, games tied directly to requestAnimationFrame would run at more than double their intended speed on 144Hz monitors!

To resolve this hardware disparity across the entire network, all game loops now compute elapsed time deltas (dt) between consecutive frames:

This ensures that player movement speeds, gravity curves, and laser velocities behave consistently regardless of whether your hardware refreshes at 60Hz, 120Hz, or 165Hz.

3. Local Storage High Scores & 5-Star Community Ratings

Player ratings and high scores are now managed with a privacy-first, local-first philosophy. We have integrated an interactive 5-star rating widget directly beneath every simulation canvas. Your personal ratings are saved instantaneously to your browser's private localStorage cache, alongside all high-score records. No tracking cookies or account logins are required.

5. Audio Synthesizer Tuning & Zero-Latency Buffers

In addition to physics and touch improvements, version 1.4 fine-tunes the frequency modulation curves for all procedural sound effects. High-frequency sweeps now decay exponentially to prevent speaker clipping on mobile hardware, while base coin and point pickups feature harmonic overtone blending. You can test these new acoustic profiles immediately in Vector Vanquisher and Chrono Defense.

All procedural sound effects run on an unblocked worker thread to prevent garbage collection pauses from causing auditory pops. As part of our commitment to accessible gaming, all titles maintain an audio toggle in the game toolbar.

4. Tactical Operator Manuals & Lore Integration

Every simulation page now includes an expanded, 500+ word tactical guide featuring verified community speedrun records, precise key mappings with visual <kbd> keycaps, and direct story links into our serialized Grid Logs universe.
